President assents the IEBC Bill

President Mwai Kibaki has assented to the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) Bill immediately after receiving it from the Attorney General and also signed into law the Independent Offices Bill, which will guide the appointment of the new Attorney General and controller of Budget.
This comes after the Commission for Implementation of Constitution (CIC) had accused the AG of slowing down the implementation process of the new constitution, by delaying the presentation of the bill to the president for assent. The Bills have been forwarded to the Government Printer for publication, which will be followed by the appointment of the new team to supervise the next elections. The constitution requires the President and Prime Minister to consult over the nominations and forward the names to Parliament for approval before appointment.
The IEBC Act established by article 88 of the new constitution is imperative for the formation of the commission that will determine the 80 new constituencies created by the new constitution and also prepare and manage the coming elections.
